Therapy

Medications to treat the fungus are available, and usually take the form of creams, gels or suppositories to be applied to the affected skin and mucous membrane areas. If the fungal infection is inside the body - in the esophagus, for example, it is also possible to take tablets or to deliver the medication via an infusion.

If the penis, the labia or the vagina are affected, you should not have sex until the fungal infection has healed. In order to avoid a “ping-pong” effect, where the infection is passed back and forth, your partners should also be checked and treated if necessary.
