Diagnosis

An amoebae or Giardia lamblia infection is diagnosed by examining a fresh stool sample. If a threadworm infection is suspected, it is possible to check for eggs. They are collected from between the buttocks with a strip of adhesive tape and the sample is examined in the laboratory. Dead worms or eggs can sometimes also be found in underclothes.
