Therapy

All three intestinal parasites mentioned can be effectively treated with medication.

Note: If the symptoms disappear, it does not necessarily mean that the pathogens have disappeared from your body. Only a laboratory test can confirm that.

In the case of threadworms, the medication can only kill the worms, not the eggs. Therefore the treatment must be repeated after about three weeks.

Partners and family members should also be checked, to avoid a “ping-pong” effect, where the infection is passed back and forth. Sex toys should be carefully cleaned. Any open jars or tubes of lubricant should be thrown out, as from there the parasites can spread again.

In the case of threadworms, strict hygiene rules must be followed for six weeks. They include frequent washing of the anal area and the hands, as well as frequent washing of underclothes and bed sheets.
