Therapy

Scabies is treated with chemicals (insecticides) which are applied to the skin. The entire body, except for the face and skin of the head, must be treated. Depending on the medicine used, the treatment must be repeated once or twice.

The (sexual) partners of people with scabies should also be treated, even if they have no symptoms. Clothes and bedclothes should be washed at 60°C. Sensitive fabrics and objects such as stuffed toys can be securely packed in a plastic bag for 14 days to starve the mites to death. Upholstered furniture, beds and similar furniture should be vacuumed multiple times or chemically cleaned.
